CAMP GONSALVES, Okinawa, Japan¬ -- For the first time in over 15 years, the Jungle Warfare Training Center at Camp Gonsalves will open its gates to local residents to attend Junglefest 2014.

The purpose of Junglefest is to promote unity, harmony and friendship between the camp and its Okinawa neighbors. The Marines and sailors at Camp Gonsalves are looking forward to hosting their Okinawa neighbors for an enjoyable and educational day at Junglefest.

Festival participants will have an opportunity to rappel down a 70 foot (20 meter) cliff, traverse rope obstacles, learn about jungle survival skills, attend a haunted house, participate in trick-or-treating, and observe various demonstrations, performances, and entertainment. These events will help educate festival attendees about the JWTC and provide a foundation for future cooperation between Camp Gonsalves and the local Okinawa community.

Junglefest will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on October 25, at Camp Gonsalves, which is located on Highway 70 on the northern end of Okinawa in the Yanbaru Forest. A 5 kilometer run will begin at 9:30 a.m. and a “kid’s” 800 meter run will start at 10:30 a.m. Runners may register at any Marine Corps Base Fitness Center, on race day at Camp Gonsalves from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m., or online at the link provided below.

Media interested in attending will need to submit the following information: media agency, full name and vehicle information to include license number and type of vehicle, to OkinawaPao@usmc.mil by 12:00 p.m. October 17. Registered media members will receive additional information prior to the event.

【キャンプ・ゴンザルベス】キャンプ・ゴンザルベス（北部訓練場）が15年以上振りにジャングル・フェスト2014を開催し、地元の皆様のためにゲートを開放します。

このフェスティバルは近隣の皆様との一体化、共存、友好関係を掲げ、開催する運びとなりました。キャンプ・ゴンザルベス所属の海兵隊員と海軍兵は、ジャングル・フェストで沖縄の皆様が楽しみ、学んでもらえるよう、心待ちにしております。

参加者は、20メートルの崖（壁）の降下、綱渡り、ジャングル・サバイバル・スキル、お化け屋敷、ハロウィーンを体験したり、デモンストレーション、パフォーマンス、エンタテイメントなどを楽しんだりすることができます。このイベントを通して、北部訓練場について学んでいただき、キャンプ・ゴンザルベスと地域との協力の基盤となれば幸いです。

ジャングル・フェストは10月25日午前11時～午後3時半までキャンプ・ゴンザルベス（やんばる北部県道70号線）で開催されます。5キロマラソンは午前9時半の開始です。キッズ800メートル競走は午前10時半開始です。ランナーは、キャンプ・ゴンザルベスのフィットネス・センターで当日午前8時半～9時の間に申込できます。また、オンラインでもお申込可能です。フェスティバルの情報は下記のサイトからもご覧いただけます。www.facebook.com/jwtcjunglefest.
