Marines are recognized for their voluntary work at the Winter 2017 Dance Showcase Dec. 14 at Koza Music Town, Okinawa, Japan. The showcase featured variety of dance styles such as, ballet, tap and contemporary. The dancers perform at many events throughout the year, competing with local dance studios across the island. The Foster Girl Scout Juniors collected pajamas to send to Sunrin Orphanage near Pohang, Korea, as part of efforts to earn the Bronze Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. The elf tryouts consisted of 10 squad pushups, 10 pullups and 10 ammunition can lifts. Eleven units competed in five challenges throughout the day and the team with the fastest time won. The demonstration was part of a cultural exchange between Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force and members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, 15th Brigade. The Marines taught the JGSDF wrist locks, arm bar from the mount and disarming techniques. Food service specialist Marines from across MCIPAC competed in this event and only three were chosen as finalists. Seaman Apprentice Ariel C. Lissauer dons her hard hat - MCAS FUTENMA, OKINAWA, Japan – Seaman Apprentice Ariel C. Lissauer dons her hard hat Oct. 18 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. Lissauer is the mastermind behind the creation, construction and execution of this year’s MCAS Futenma’s Haunted House dedicating over 100 hours to its creation. Lissauer’s experience as a Seabee helped her with all of the manual labor required to build the maze. With the haunted house opening around the corner, Lissauer waits anxiously for the feedback from the visitors.
