A Foster Girl Scout waits in line to fill up a backpack with donations - CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – A Foster Girl Scout waits in line to fill up a backpack with donations Nov. 3 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The Foster Girl Scouts are participating in the Girl Scout’s Global Action project, “Increasing Girls’ Access to Education.” The Girl Scouts filled backpacks to be handed out to kindergarteners in Thailand during Operation Cobra Gold. The Foster Girl Scouts made an assembly line with help from Marine volunteers and parents filling gently used backpacks with items such as: notebooks, a stuffed animal from home, and crayons. Local and military officials meet in the middle of the stage - GINOWAN CITY, Okinawa, Japan – Local and military officials meet in the middle of the stage in order to present tokens of appreciation for the land return ceremony Aug. 1 at Laguna Garden Hotel in Ginowan City, Okinawa, Japan. In March 1996, the Joint Committee approved the return of land on the east side of Marine Corps Air Station Futenma for construction of a highway which will benefit the local community by reducing traffic on the southeast side of Futnema. U.S. Marines stand to honor the fallen during the 2016 Okinawa Memorial services June 23 at Peace Memorial Park, Itoman, Japan. The ceremony brought Okinawa residents and Status of Forces Agreement members together to honor those whose lives were lost in the Battle of Okinawa. During the ceremony, distinguished guest speakers gave speeches to honor the fallen in the Battle of Okinawa and laid wreaths at the memorial walls, on which the names of the fallen were engraved.
