Marines enjoy a meal cooked for evaluation in the field mess category of the Maj. Gen. William Pendleton Thompson Hill Memorial Awards Oct. 20 aboard Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan. Food Service Company’s field mess facility, Camp Thunderdome, was evaluated on 11 different categories including operations, sanitation, taste and quality of food. This was the first baseball clinic held on Camp Kinser. Approximately 50 Japanese and American children participated in the event. The clinic consisted of Hirano teaching fundamental skills and techniques followed by a game. The day ended with prizes, lunch and a cake for all who participated. Majewski and the consulate organized a tour of the exhibit in an effort to strengthen ties with the historical and cultural institutions of Okinawa. Bertrand, from Ontario, Oregon, helps children put together paper pilgrim and American Indian hats Nov. 23 during the second annual Thanksgiving celebration with Tai Chu En Children’s Home at the Camp Kinser Chapel. This was the second annual Thanksgiving event with the children’s home and the Marines and sailors with Combat Logistics Regiment 35. Following the crafts, the children and volunteers sat down for a Thanksgiving feast including turkey, corn and pumpkin pie. The battalion is comprised of headquarters, motor transport, landing, and support companies. Consolidating the four companies will improve the support available to III Marine Expeditionary Force, according to Bligh. McMillen is from Craig, Colorado, and the commanding officer for 3rd TSB, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Bligh is from Athens, Pennsylvania, and is the commanding officer for CLR-3. - Lt. Col. Maria McMillen and Col. A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter flies with a Humvee attached to it Oct. 7 here. The CH-53E is able to lift a max weight of 73,500 pounds, which includes its own weight, and is able to lift not only vehicles, but expeditionary bridges and even other aircraft. The CH-53E is with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, currently assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III MEF, under the unit deployment program. - A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter flies with a Humvee attached to it Oct. 7 here.
