Seaman Miguelanto S. Lugtu demonstrates how to splint a broken arm on a member of Girl Scout Troop 435 during a Jane Wayne Day March 12 aboard Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan. Jane Wayne Day is an event designed to allow spouses and children to gain a better understanding of some of the physical challenges military service members face. During the event, participants learned about radios, the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, ran a modified combat fitness test, perused medical equipment and donned chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defense equipment. The troop took on the many challenges of the day as a celebration of the Girl Scout Birthday. Corpsmen and airmen are sprayed with water to clean off accumulated mud July 20 after the Combat Endurance Course, the final test of the Jungle Medicine Combat Course at the Jungle Warfare Training Center on Camp Gonsalves. The corpsmen endured four miles of obstacles and navigated through simulated combat situations in the jungle terrain. The service members are also sprayed to cool off after running the course for hours in the Okinawan sun. The corpsmen are with 3rd Dental Battalion and 3rd Medical Battalion, both with 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force; as well as 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III MEF. Marines with 3rd Maintenance Battalion work late into the evening using a Medium Crawler Tractor Bulldozer to build a water point for access to water that can be purified April 27 during Exercise Balikatan 2014 in Crow Valley, Philippines. The battalion was the Logistics Combat Element for BK-14 and supported approximately 700 Marines while in Crow Valley. The Marines are with 3rd Maint. Sgt. Maj. Justin D. Lehew speaks with students and faculty participating in the Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Academy Feb. 6 at the West Chapel on Camp Hansen regarding his personal experiences in the Marine Corps and how those in attendance can expand their knowledge of history and tradition. Lehew earned the Navy Cross, the second highest award for combat valor after the Medal of Honor, for his actions March 23-24, 2003 during the Battle of An-Nasiriyah. The battle took place during the initial invasion of Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lehew is the command sergeant major of Training and Education Command, Headquarters Marine Corps. - Sgt. Maj. Justin D.
