Marines carefully set a weather radar system, which is a subsystem of the meteorological mobile facility replacement next generation system, in place March 25 aboard Camp Mujuk in Republic of Korea. The system uses a mesoscale meteorological model to assimilate data from a variety of sources. It ingests meteorological data from both ground-based sensors and satellites. The Marines are with Air Traffic Control Detachment A, Marine Air Control Squadron 4, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The weather system is here to support exercise Ssang Yong 14, which demonstrates the Navy/Marine Corps’ responsive amphibious and expeditionary capabilities from the sea. Forward-deployed and forward-based Marine forces, in conjunction with U.S. allies, have the unique ability to provide rapid force deployment for the full range of military operations, specifically in the Pacific region.
