An instructor from the Yayoi Kimono Shop and Cultural School ties a kimono for Ladera Swiger during a Japanese Tea Ceremony Class Sept. 17 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The class provided Status of Forces Agreement personnel with the opportunity to experience Japanese traditions firsthand. During the class, instructors who hosted the event dressed the SOFA personnel in kimonos and taught them polite phrases and courtesies to use when visiting a Japanese home. The students learned how to politely partake of tea and refreshments and how to prepare and serve the matcha, which is a powdered green tea commonly served at tea ceremonies.
