An instructor from the Yayoi Kimono Shop and Cultural School serves matcha, a powdered green tea, to a guest during a Japanese Tea Ceremony Class Sept. 17 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The class provided Status of Forces Agreement personnel with the opportunity to experience Japanese traditions firsthand. During the class, instructors who hosted the event dressed the SOFA personnel in kimonos and taught them polite phrases and courtesies one must use when visiting a Japanese home. The students learned how to politely partake of tea and refreshments and how to prepare, present and serve the matcha.
