Marines ride out on a combat rubber raiding craft as they prepare to conduct night infiltration Sept. 20 at U.S. Naval Base Guam during Exercise Valiant Shield 2014. Once night falls, the Marines will use a diver propulsion device to swiftly come ashore. Gunnery Sgt. Charles Maddox addresses the students at Tinian Junior Senior High School during a school visit Sept. 12 on Tinian. The Marines gave students a taste of Marine recruit training, taught them about different military occupational specialties, and introduced them to different military vehicles. An FA-18C Hornet makes an arrested landing using the M31 Marine Corps Expeditionary Arresting Gear System Sept. 15 at Tinian's West Field during Exercise Valiant Shield 2014. Arresting gear is used in order to land pilots in a short amount of space, or during an emergency. Valiant Shield is a biennial exercise which focuses on training that enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces.
