Rosas and Burnham were awarded letters of appreciation for their life-saving efforts following a vehicle collision, and their courage combating a vehicle fire April 16. Col. Preston W. Jones, from Harrisonburg, Virginia, gives opening remarks during the III Marine Expeditionary Force Exercise and Training Convention Nov. 25 at Camp Hansen. Jones spoke to the Marines about the intent of the convention and things they can expect to learn while there. The convention was set-up much like a job fair, in which Marines walked around from table to table and learned about training capabilities and limitations, points of contact, upcoming exercise plans, and training opportunities across the Marine Air Ground Task Force. Okinawa residents and U.S Marines stationed at Camp Schwab pose for a group photo following the completion of a fence cleaning project July 2 near Camp Schwab. During the event, participants removed ribbons and litter from the fence line. The Marines are volunteers with various units stationed at Camp Schwab. The event showcased local support for U.S. military forces stationed on the island and demonstrated the good relationship between the Okinawa community and the U.S. Marines on Camp Schwab. Sgt. Blake A. Wallace, right, is awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal by Col. Lance A. McDaniel April 25 at Camp Hansen. Wallace and two other Marines used emergency medical techniques to save the life of a fellow Marine, who suffered a heart attack. “Everyone knows that in this organization, no Marine is left behind,” said McDaniel. “This matters everywhere we go, not just on the battlefield, but in garrison as well. These Marines honored that principle when they provided assistance.” Wallace is a fire support man with Headquarters Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
