Maj. Andrew Merz, from Lansing, Michigan, talks to a Kin Town resident after the tsunami evacuation drill Nov. 5 at Camp Hansen. This was the first exercise since the local disaster response agreement was signed by Marine Corps and Kin Town officials in September. The drills improved the communication between Camp Hansen, Kin Town Officers, Ishi Kawa police and the local community leaders responsible for disaster response, according to Masaru Nago, from Kin Town. Common skills challenges were located at each point on the map to include how to call in a medical evacuation and assembling the M249B squad automatic weapon. Dividing into seven groups, the Marines ran together in search of their next station so they could accomplish the mission. The Single Marine Program held its third annual haunted house on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma Oct. 24-26. Volunteers spent over 200 hours transforming the MCAS Futenma chow hall into a haunted house which was open to locals and service members from sunset until midnight. Azinge challenges herself as a sailor to learn more about the Marine Corps side of her job to better assist the Marines she serves. The Marines started the training by rappelling down the tower twice. To end the training, each Marine fast-roped down the tower twice. The targets were replica bunker positions and tanks ranging from 400 to 900 meters down range. The Marines are training to keep up their basic infantry skills and improve upon them. Solar panels for the Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy System gather energy to provide power to the command center Nov. 4 during the exercise Blue Chromite 15 on Camp Schwab. The solar panels supplied the initial 24 hours of power for the Combat Operations Center during Chromite and have continued to power the communications systems.
