Republic of Korea Army soldiers along with U.S. Marines and sailors help farmers prepare their peppertree fields for spring planting March 16 in Tongilchon Village, Republic of Korea. The service members put dead peppertrees, plastic soil coverings and stabilization poles in a pile to remove them from the fields. Military working dog handlers use a mine detector coupled with environmental cues to find six simulated improvised explosive devices emplaced by explosive ordnance disposal technicians March 24 during a training event at Camp Hansen. While military working dogs are able to identify explosives, it is necessary for the handlers to know how to identify the types of environments where IEDs may be emplaced. Marines with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, participate in the closing ceremony for Exercise Forest Light 14-2 March 8 at Sekiyama Training Area, Niigata prefecture, Japan. Forest Light was a two-week long exercise in which Marines and JGSDF members trained together, improving interoperability in cold-weather environments.
